Who IS the girl behind the blog?

Hi there! Welcome to my little corner of the world…

It just so happens that it’s currently a very PINK world. I didnt set out for it to be that way, but well, fate intervened and my house found me.

I bought my very first home in March of 2011. A completion of a life long dream. It was one of the most bestest days of my life. We had been looking for over a year. A YEAR. UGH. We had placed two previous offers that fell through. We had just decided to give up completely for awhile when we found THE house.

That home happens to be a Pink Stucco Ranch, circa 1959! She came complete with pink carpet, orange carpet, blue carpet and even some yellow carpet.

I am proud to say I have not one, but TWO Pink bathrooms.

It is my goal to honor the history of my house. The architecture of my house. While also bringing her into this century.

I invite you to follow me along…I wont always do things right, but I promise you I will do them openly and honestly.

In addition to home improvements, my other interests are photography, genealogy, food, fitness, craft beer, and animal rescue.

I can be found most often hanging at home with my brood. My English Bulldog, Bode, my boxer mix, Zoe, my way cool kitty, Ozzy, and my soul mate Brian.

Thanks for stopping by!

Guys, please, please be careful taking up the flooring. It looks original and it is a ’50s house, to be on the safe side get it tested for asbestos, both the lino and the adhesive below it.

If you are looking to keep the original look of your exterior doors check out http://www.crestviewdoors.com
They sell door light kits for 50’s houses. I will be using two of there kits when I replace the old doors on my “58” Atomic ranch.

    Dear Dawn,

Enjoyed your blog and the way you write a lot. I got all excited, when I realized you are not living in a posh state hundreds of miles away. No, just here in central Ohio! I do not know anyone who loves mid-century stuff, so what a relief to see I am not alone! I should add I am not American, and therefore I do not have the same background as most people here. I love your house and hope you keep up with the posts. If you have any tips for me where to thrift, or other cool shops or hang outs, be so kind and share…..

    European hugs and greetings,

    Cordi

I just came across your blog through Retrorenovation. You have a great house. I also live in Columbus in a 1960 stucco ranch, original pink sink/oven/stove and pink/blue bathroom. I was lucky the place was in decent and almost original shape. I even kept the turquoise carpet in the living room. There are some cool places in the Short North for MCM, Flower Child and the Boomerang Room are the 2 that stand out.
Good luck with your place, I know I have a ton of projects ahead of me,

OH MY. I am super jealous of the pink oven and stove! I still have my original stove top but its in rough shape…The wall ovens and every other appliance has been replaced. Sadness! If I had an endless check book I would be projin all over the place…LOL…But one thing at a time. So glad to “meet” other stucco ranch owners. Many of them in my neighborhood have been sided over…

Just stumbled upon your blog, through retro renovation. I’m so glad I did! It does scare me a bit. I have a husband named Brian, I have an american bulldog. I just became the proud owner of a pink kromex sprice rack and canister set. (I scored the s and p at a local shop for 10 bucks). And my Brian also has an unhealthy obsession with vintage barware! Is it possible for a couple to have a double? I have a pintrest that I will be posting pictures of my new pink/red kitchen on. I cant wait.

Hi Terri! Thanks for stopping by. Would love to see your pics. I have been hunting for some nice retro S and P shakers for awhile now…The hunt is most of the fun!

Dawn I have a question about your ” being friends with your ex” blog. Would you mind e-mailing me. I sincerely appreciate it. I am in a similar situation ( my fiance & his ex & her husband) but it’s very hard for me to accept. I messaged you here because I did not see a place on the other blog. Thank you.

Hi! I came across your post on another site about your relationship with your ex! I am in the same position and, along with my ex, we are looking for others to tell their “happy divorce” stories to be compiled into a book. If you are interested please send me an email at LAHuttle@aol.com. Thank you!
